Six Flags New England - stay away!

I have been to Six Flags New England previously but only for a short period of time and it was many years ago. Honestly I don't remember the trip as it wasn't that memorable then either. This year, entry was a Christmas 2012 present and I attended with other family members ranging in age from 2 to upper 50's.

The park is easy to get to and traffic first thing in the morning is not bad. We were able to pull through the parking entrance and park all in a matter of 5 - 10 minutes. Once parked you can either walk to the park entrance or take a shuttle/bus. The walk is not that bad and it's just a matter of crossing over the main road.

Like most parks, Six Flags is broken into different themes ("Looney Tunes Movie Town", "Rockville", "DC Super Hero Adventures", etc.) of which they are laid out on their map. I strongly suggest getting a map when you enter because you will need it in order to find the entrances to some of the rides. The park is pretty big so I wouldn't expect to be able to ride every ride in one day so make an ordered list of the ones you must ride before your time in the park is up and concentrate on those first. I'd try to plan it out logically with how you intend to move about the park and do those in the same general area together.

If you aren't into roller coasters or they aren't a major draw for you, DO NOT go to this park. 90%+ of the adult rides are just that. I can take 'em or leave 'em so the rides didn't have a big draw for me personally. I just went with the flow of the others in the group. It was a mixed day of adult rides, kiddie rides, and a visit to the water park.

Overall, this day was disappointing. The park itself had no draw for a majority of the people in our group. The park was packed (to be expected toward the end of summer on a weekend), the bathrooms smell, people in general are ruder than I've experienced in say Disney, food prices are astronomically high ($30 for 2 hamburgers and 2 bottle waters), and the water park was a complete let down.

In the water park, the water slide I tried didn't have enough force to get me to the bottom and I'm not a small guy so gravity should have done most of the work. The water was freezing. The only thing I could think of was the Seinfeld episode with the "Shrinkage". When we went to enter one of the pools, they were in the process of getting everyone out of it so we had to wait for them to let everyone back in. Then when we were allowed in, my wife found a Band-aid floating in the water and was immediately turned off and got right back out.

Others in our party tried a couple different water slides but ended up getting out of line as it hadn't moved in over 10 minutes. Why waste that much time to get nowhere? There were also slides that they wanted to do but couldn't find the entrance for (see my map comment earlier). Other slides just plain looked like they were shut down; no attendants or guests.

We managed to stay most of the day. The park closes at 10pm and we made it to 5pm but most of that time was spent in the kid's section riding rides with them, eating or just walking around the park looking in the shops.

My personal opinion is this place sucks!

  • The park is not easily navigated without constantly referring to your map,
  • You can't find all the rides without the map,
  • The bathrooms smelled,
  • Trash cans were left to bake in the sun contributing to the smell of the park overall,
  • 90%+ of the adult rides are roller coasters,
  • Food is really expensive compared to other parks,
  • and the water park feels like an after thought and not worth the trek over.
