Butterfly post processing

Looking for some feedback on the processing done. Not really composition but things like "Do my changes increase interest?" "Make the image look more vintage?"

These sort of things. Kristen's opinions wouldn't hurt either. I'm more thinking of trying this with some portraits.

Flash and ISO

So my question stems around ETTL-II Flash and my ISO setting.

My camera seems to want the settings at a point where I am shooting at 1/60 seconds. This is regardless of whether or not I shoot at 400 ISO or 800 ISO. It will adjust my f-stop and flash output accordingly. My questions are...

1. Can you typically tell your camera that you want to shoot at a higher shutter speed without being in shutter priority mode?

2. If not, is there an advantage/disadvantage to shooting at 400 ISO vs. 800 ISO or vice versa given that I will gain the same amount of light via the other settings?

Any reading you've done that you can point me to on this subject?

Thanks

I'm so pissed that we aren't still doing "Red". While not the greatest shot, it is far better than anything I posted for that. Feel free to post comments on the shot.

Loss of detail help

So I am really concerned with the amount of detail I may be losing in my images during post processing as was pointed out to me in one of my shots for the on-going assignments. I've take a couple of pictures and really scaled back my "extreme" processing as someone called it. Can you please take a look at it strictly from a saturation/gamut/highlights/detail perspective and point out anything you might see?

Note: I'll make use of the new 2MB upload size for premier members and if you click the image you will receive a larger file in a new window so you can hopefully see more of the details I'm talking about.

Reflections Assignment - retakes/other shots

MonkeyMan called BS on this post because you can't tell it was taken in a mirror. I agree so I call a mulligan and will post a reflection shot tomorrow.

Assignment 2: Reflections

I think with the success of the first assignment I wanted to continue on the path of us being challenged. So the topic of reflection came to mind.

The rules are the same, we will switch between posts once feedback is given. Since I was the last to post on the Red Assignment I will let you continue in line with your turn and take a stab at it.

No photoshop work to create reflections... just good photography

I was torn between two images for my posting of the tail lights photo. In looking at it now, I think I like this one better. The white lights at the top balance out the darkness of the rest of the photo without taking away from the subject which is the red lights.

lens repair

I recently started having trouble with my 18 - 200mm lens where there was like a grinding sensation whenever I zoomed out. Fearing that I had gotten sand in it since it's not an L series lens and therefore not weather sealed at all, I decided to ship it to Canon for repair.

I never realized how much I relied on that lens. My only other lenses are the kit lens and the 50mm 1.8. This has been a long week and a half.

I do have to mention that Canon was very quick in their repair time and it looks like I wasn't charged for the service. I can't wait to get home to see if I notice the difference and to start shooting with it again.

Hopefully they calibrated it even though I didn't specifically ask them to. I wasn't having trouble with it before but it would be nice to know that it's been done.
